CAREER TRACK PROGRESS
Your TAP Center offers classes and counseling to support your transition. Please contact your TAP center to enroll in any of following services.
Congratulations you have completed Registration!
Officially start the transition process by completing your Initial Assessment and scheduling an Individualized Initial Counseling (IIC) between you and a TAP counselor. During your IIC you will begin your Individual Transition Plan (ITP) to identify your transition process and post-transition goals. After your IIC, learn about benefits, entitlements, and resources during your Preseparation Counseling (PSC).
The TAP Curriculum includes the following classes:
Course Name | Course Description |
---|---|
Managing Your (MY) Transition (MYT) | At least 12 months prior to transition, receive a transition overview and learn about personal and family transition concerns, workplace etiquette, transition-related stressors, and effective communication. |
Military Occupational Code (MOC) Crosswalk | At least 12 months prior to transition, learn how to translate military skills, training, and experience for civilian jobs. Identify gaps in training and/or experience that need to be filled to meet personal career goals. |
Financial Planning for Transition (FP) | At least 12 months prior to transition, understand how transition will impact your financial situation by discussing changes in income, taxes, healthcare costs, new expenses, and other financial changes related to transition. |
DoL Employment Fundamentals of Career Transition (EFCT) | At least 9 months prior to transition, gather tools and resources to evaluate career options, gain information for civilian employment, and understand the employment process. |
VA Benefits and Services (VABAS) | No later than 6 months prior to transition, a representative from the VA shares services and benefits available to Service Members and Family members, how to apply for them, and how best to leverage them. |
Continuum of Military Service Counseling (Active Component Only) | Completed 90 days prior to transition. Learn the benefits of transitioning to the Reserve Component (RC) by meeting with your local Reserve Component Career Counselor (RCCC). |
Career Tracks are typically completed after you have completed your core curriculum classes. Depending on your Individual Transition Plan (ITP) goals, you may choose to participate in one or more of the following career tracks:
Track Name | Course Description |
---|---|
Education Track: Managing Your (MY) Education (MYE) | Assists in identifying higher education requirements. Divided into the following topic areas: learning the basics, choosing a field of study, selecting an institution, gaining admission, and funding higher education. |
Employment Track: Employment Workshop (DoLEW) | Covers emerging best practices in career employment, including in-depth training to learn interview skills, build effective resumes, and use emerging technology to network and search for employment. |
Vocational Track: Career & Credential Exploration (C2E) | Offers a unique opportunity for participants to complete a personalized career development assessment of occupational interest and ability. |
Entrepreneurship Track: Boots to Business (B2B) | An "Introduction to Entrepreneurship" provides participants with an introductory understanding of business ownership. |
Capstone must be completed no later than 90 days before the date of separation or retirement.
Capstone is your last step in the TAP process. During Capstone a commander, or a commander's designee, verifies that you have met your Transition Goals, have a viable Individual Transition Plan (ITP), and are prepared to transition to civilian life.
If you have not met your Transition Goals, do not have a viable ITP, or are not prepared to transition, with adequate time remaining on active duty, you can re-attend any of the TAP classes. However, if you require follow-on assistance, a "warm handover" will be facilitated to the appropriate interagency partner such as the Department of Veterans Affairs or the Department of Labor.
